Britney’s Diminished Ovarian Reserve and IVF Journey
This is just a glimpse of what our last year has looked like. I never imagined this would be my life. You never think you are the 1 in 6 but sadly we were.
In 2018 I learned that I had Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) and really didn’t think anything of it at the time because I didn’t want kids then.
Fast forward to trying to get pregnant, we learned this would be a long and difficult journey but we were determined. After not being able to get pregnant naturally after a year plus, we took the steps to work with our amazing fertility clinic.
We learned that my DOR was declining and my AMH was dropping and sadly my body has hit perimenopause (Ovarian Failure). It was at this time that I started to worry and honestly thought I would never be able to get pregnant.
The best fertility treatment for us was to take out my eggs and start the IVF process as this would preserve my very few remaining eggs and give us a “chance” to have a baby.
We didn’t share we were going through IVF because I didn’t want to get judged, there is a lot of unknown, uncertainty, waiting games, and it was a mental toll on both of us, and weren’t sure it would even work.
I’m extremely grateful for IVF and that it worked out for us because if it wasn’t for IVF I wouldn’t be pregnant with my sweet miracle baby boy. IVF never guarantees you a baby but it gives some a chance.
I wanted to share a glimpse of what we went through to just remind the ladies to get your hormones checked sooner than later. I wish I would have taken the next steps sooner, but very grateful it all worked out. If your hormones are anything like mine, I would highly recommend egg freezing if you aren’t planning to have kids anytime soon.
